Frequently Asked Questions
DIY Candle Making Kit Questions
Q: What size should my vessel be if I choose to use my own?
A: You have been given 6.5 fluid ounces of wax, which typically fits in a vessel with a height of 5-6 inches and a diameter of 3 inches.
Q: How do I use the centering stick and clothes pin as a centering device?
A: Here is a photo for you to see how it should look. The clothes pin should be as close to the centering stick as possible, even with a bit of pressure in order to ensure the wick does not move.
Q: Which items are which? I can't tell which is the stir stick and which is the centering stick.
A: Here is a photo of each item labeled!
Q: Should my water be boiling the entire time that the wax is melting?
A: Yes, to ensure the wax does melt entirely, it is best to boil the water until your wax has completely melted and no more white pellets of wax are floating.
Q: How do I clean my pot that contained the wax once I am finished to ensure it is safe for food consumption again?
A: As soon as you are done pouring the wax and oil into your candle vessel, take some paper towel and wipe down the pot in order to absorb as much of the remaining wax and oil as possible. Once this is complete, use dish soap and extremely hot water to wash the pot as normal.
Why is 100% organic soy wax better than other candle waxes?
100% organic soy wax is derived from soybeans which are a natural, renewable source grown in many regions by organic farmers. Organic soy wax provides a cleaner burn as it does not contain paraffin waxes which are extracts of petroleum and are derived from petrochemicals.
Organic Soy Wax is:
- 100% plant-based
- All natural
- Sustainable, renewable and biodegradable
- Free of petroleum products, animal products and insect products
- Free of palm oil
What is the difference between essential oil candles and fragrance oil candles?
Pure essential oils provide you with a clean, natural aroma that elicits a response as they contain natural elements in the brain. Benefits may include calming your nervous system, relaxation or energizes your senses to enhance your health and wellness.
Fragrance oils are manufactured scents, which means they have been chemically altered from their original plant extracts to create scents in the way perfume is created. Synthetic fragrances are often the selected choice as they tend to have a wider throw and stronger burn scent.
We do carry both essential oils and fragrance oils so if you're shopping for a certain type, do ensure you are looking at the right candles.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a type of complementary and alternative medicine that uses plant oils and other natural oils to give off strong pleasant aromas (scents) to promote relaxation, a sense of well-being and healing.

What do I do with my vessel once I am finished burning my candle?
You are able to either use it for its original intended purpose or bring it back to us for a candle refill.
To use the vessel for its intended purpose, we recommend melting down the remaining wax in the oven on a very low temperature. Once the wax is completely in liquid form, pour it into a recyclable heat resistant vessel. Add rubbing alcohol, dish soap and boiling water into the vessel to wash it out and scrub the remaining wax out of the vessel.
If you are looking to get your candle refilled, we do one free refill and a minimum payment of $5 thereafter, all depending on the size of the vessel.
Why am I having trouble lighting my wood wick?
The cedar wooden wicks can be quite finicky. We recommend using a barbecue lighter or something similar, that is stronger than a cigarette light. Hold the flame of the lighter on the wood wick for approximately 30-45 seconds as it does take a while for the wood to fully catch.
If this does not work, as there are some dud wood wicks, we will happily redo the candle for you with new wicks. Please head to our Contact Us page and reach out.
Why is my candle tunneling and not melting evenly?
Tunneling will occur when you have not let the flame of your candle burn long enough to create a melt pool that reaches the edge of the vessel (this can take 3-4 hours).
If this occurs, do not trim your wick but leave it longer to create a larger flame on your next burn to allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the vessel.
